Sim's Cemetery, AKA Slave Cemetery. Located behind the Sheriff's substation in the forest on PRIVATE property at Forest Corners, Florida, approximately 20 miles east of Ocala, Fl
Local lore has it the the slaves of the Holly and the Marshall sugar plantations were buried here. There are but two tombstones, one which is engraved on both sides. Elsie Sims and her son Joseph Sims. The second stone is of Raymond Harold Sims thought to be a grandson or great grandson of Elsie. Elsie was Elsie Ball prior to her marriage to Larry Sims. The entire Sims family can be found on the 1880 US census.
While there are but two headstones, there are indications of numerous graves. A recent storm took down a large tree which knocked over both headstones. We set them back up as well as we could.
